FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Before we get started...
You may have a few questions about coaching before you are ready to jump in. I've answered a few of the most common questions I get below. If you have questions that aren't covered here, please feel free to reach out through my contact page and I will be happy to answer any additional questions you might have.
Therapists help their clients examine past trauma and pain. They facilitate healing from those past experiences and offer insights which may help their client understand where they find themselves in life today.
Coaches collaborate with their clients to help them move from where they are today to where they want to be in the next stage of their lives Coaches partner with their client to provide structure to the sessions and ask questions that help the client explore obstacles that might be preventing forward growth.
Both coaches and therapists can be incredibly helpful in self-care. If, after meeting, I believe a therapist might be a more useful place for you to start, we'll have that discussion together. I am happy to provide you with recommendations of therapists who can assist you in working through trauma and/or grief if we determine that's a better place for you to begin.
It is so important to find a coach you feel comfortable with. This is why we will meet each other through an exploration call first. During our time together, I will ask you some questions to help determine what you are looking for in a coach and what issue(s) you are looking to tackle. You'll also have an opportunity to ask me questions to help you determine if I am someone you'd be comfortable working with.
If we're a match, we'll decide on next steps. If we're not a match, I'm happy to provide you with recommendations to other coaches, or therapists, who might be a better fit.
This really depends on your situation. If you just need a little direction with one question, or issue, we may meet for as little as one to four sessions. If you have several areas you're working on or are dealing with a large life transition, we'll likely need more time together. We'll have a better idea after our exploration call.
As a Christian life coach, I find inviting the Holy Spirit through prayer at the beginning of each session sets the tone for deeper exploration and insight. I will always ask your permission to pray before we start.
Our first session will be devoted to an overall life assessment. Often people expect to focus on only one issue which can lead to missing valuable connections and cross-overs with other areas of their life. The assessment will allow you to explore your life as a whole and decide what areas, or issues, you'd like to address during our time together.
During our second session, we'll narrow down the areas in which you'd like to focus and we'll create SMART goals around each of these issues. You'll have some homework after the second, and future, sessions that we'll review at the start of the next one. This will help focus and make the most of our time together.
Our third, and future sessions will be spent working towards achieving the goals you created and each session will end with action steps to help you continue moving forward in your journey.
What is said during our time together stays between us. Confidentiality is the foundation of trust in the coaching relationship and I take this very seriously. Our sessions are a place you should feel safe to share whatever feels important, and relevant, to the discussion and your goals.
